Let It Shine with Enchanting Beauty

Hello friends, I am back with a new project for the Altenew Educator’s Certification Program, highlighting the Let It Shine class. This fun and shiny class is taught by the talented, Carissa Wiley. I chose to feature the Enchanting Beauty stamp and die bundle for my project today. Let’s take a look at my project and then I will discuss a little about what you will learn in this class, if you are interested in taking it, as it available as individual course.

The Let it Shine course, is exactly as you would imagine, it teaches you the different ways to had shimmer and shine, taking your cards to the next level. There are 6 module in this online class that you can take at your own pace. The first one talks about adding glitter to your project. Of you course you can add glitter the old fashion way, using glue and glitter, you can also use double sided adhesive and press the glitter into it. If you are like me and the sound of glitter makes you shutter, there are less messy ways such as shed-free glitter card stocks or products like stickles.

I utilized the methods discussed in modules, 2 and 3 which are embossing and embellishments. Heat embossing is my all time favorite technique so I was naturally drawn to this module. In my opinion watching embossing powder melt is the most therapeutic thing on the planet. In addition to the gold embossing powder, I used gold sequins to add shine. Carissa also explained that adding embellishments in odd numbers or in three’s is more pleasing to the eye. In addition to the trios, placing the embellishments to move your eye toward the sentiment and off the card, gives the scene a sense of movement.

In addition to the methods I used the modules discussed using shimmer/sparkle pens to add shine which I frequently use too. Something I forget about often is using metallic card stocks and washi tapes in my card making endeavors. I hope to highlight those in future projects I make for this AECP journey.

Now let’s talk about this card, a little bit. I made a mini slimline card, which I use the dimensions of 6.5 x7 inch card bases scored at 3.5 inches. The front panel of the card was blended using Altenew Crisp Dye inks in the colors Dew Drops, Auqulicious, and Minty Minty. I then heat embossed the largest Gingko spray with embossing ink and gold powder. I used a couple of the individual leaves to accent the scene using the same blue inks. In addition to the foliage spray, I heat embossed the sentiments with gold and clear embossing powders onto vellum. Before adhering the vellum sentiment, I die cut one of the leaves using the accompanying dies and then added it to the scene.

Tip: Make sure to have your heat gun really hot before taking it to the vellum and quickly move it along, as the vellum will warp easily. Also when adhering vellum you have a few options. You can either add double sided adhesive to the entire piece or strategically add dots of glue behind the most opaque part of the sentiment.

I like dimension and texture on my cards, so I chose to do just a few more things. You will notice that I tore the edges of the vellum sentiment, and added another white panel with distressed edges. I popped the layer up with foam tape to add just one more layer of texture. I’d love to know if you like layers and dimension or are your more of CAS kind of person?

Okay that wraps it up for me today!

Just a small disclaimer! All items used in all of my projects are (or have been) purchased with my own funds, but this does not include design team items that I have received or otherwise stated.

  10. Your card is absolutely beautiful and I can feel the joy of cardmaking in your post! I think the white die-cut that you added takes the attention away from the gorgeous inking and embossing. Sometimes for a card like this, you literally need to take a few steps back and look at the card from a little further away 🙂
Thank you for submitting your beautiful work to the AECP assignment gallery.

  11. The wording says it all *What a beauty* love the gold embossing against the aqua blues and the wonderful was you have introduced that torn piece of vellum. It’s all marries up so well. A delight to see.
