Who says holiday card making can’t include a little extra Christmas cheer? This playful handmade Christmas card combines Copic coloring, sparkling embellishments, festive patterned paper, and plenty of texture—all inspired by a fun round of Craft Roulette!
The adorable image and cheeky “Santa says it’s okay to spike it” sentiment are from the Cheers to Christmas Stamp Set by Pajama Crafter Stamps. I chose to turn the drink into a festive spiked holiday cocktail, complete with colorful candy-inspired details and enough sparkle to make Santa’s workshop jealous.
Copic Coloring a Festive Holiday Drink
I began by stamping the Christmas image and coloring it with Copic alcohol markers. The rich brown shading gives the sweet bear plenty of dimension, while the traditional red, green, and white color palette keeps the design merry and bright.
To make the holiday drink extra special, I added sequins inside the glass to resemble colorful pieces of candy. Gemstones provide another layer of festive sparkle and help the drink become the star of this Christmas card design. After all, holiday beverages deserve a little bling too!
Adding Christmas Patterned Paper and Texture
The Cottage Christmas Paper Pack adds a playful touch of holiday whimsy to the background. The soft green diagonal pattern complements the traditional Christmas colors without competing with the stamped focal image.
For the “bark” element, I used a bark-pattern die in an unexpected way. Instead of cutting the cardstock, I paired the die with an embossing mat and ran it through my die-cutting machine. This created a beautifully textured white background that resembles woodgrain while keeping the card light and cheerful.
A bold red arched mat frames the Copic-colored image and draws the eye directly toward the festive scene. Black-and-white twine adds contrast and helps visually connect the different layers of the card.
A Special Handmade Finishing Touch
No handmade greeting card is complete without a detail that celebrates the love behind it. I added Handmade with Love Buttons near the bottom of the card and tied them with black twine. The natural wood finish coordinates beautifully with the embossed bark texture while giving the design that unmistakable handcrafted touch.
Red heart gemstones complete the card with another pop of color, shine, and Christmas cheer.

The holiday theme came together with the Santa hat, Christmas gifts, festive drink, and traditional seasonal colors. The colorful candy, sequins, gemstones, patterned paper, and Copic marker combinations created a full “buffet” of color and embellishments. For bark, the embossed woodgrain texture and natural wooden buttons provided the perfect solution.
That is the fun of Craft Roulette—you never know where the parameters will lead or which last-minute creative decision will completely transform the finished card!
