Ahoy, crafty friends! Today I’m thrilled to share a sneak peek of an exciting new release arriving at Pajama Crafter Stamps this Friday! Featuring the adorable new Kraken Good Stamps, Pirate Pals Stamps, Treasure Voyage Paper Pack, Coal Cardstock, Pebbled Beach Cardstock, and Stitched Scallop Borders, this playful pirate-themed card is packed with adventure, dimension, and ocean-inspired details. Created during my recent YouTube Live while playing along with Craft Roulette, this project showcases just a few of the possibilities waiting in this fun new collection.

A Pirate Adventure in Every Frame

For this project, I created a 5×7 greeting card that tells a playful pirate story through a series of framed scenes. The bold black film strip die-cut frame serves as the focal point, highlighting two adorable pirate-themed images from the Pirate Pals Stamp Set and Kraken Good Stamp Set.

The top scene features a cheerful pirate kraken navigating the seas while searching for treasure, while the lower scene showcases a young pirate standing triumphantly on the shore with swords in hand and treasure nearby. To complete the story, I tucked an additional pirate kraken image into the foreground, creating depth and drawing the eye through the entire design.

The sentiment, “Have a Kraken Good Day!”, perfectly ties together the playful pirate theme and makes this card suitable for birthdays, encouragement, friendship, or just because.

Craft Roulette Challenge Details

This card was inspired by the following Craft Roulette parameters:

Project: 5 x 7 Card

The finished card measures 5 x 7 inches, providing plenty of space to create a multi-scene design and showcase detailed coloring.

Element: Photo Booth

To fulfill the photo booth challenge, I used a film strip die to frame my pirate characters. The film strip creates the appearance of snapshots from a pirate adventure, making the design both unique and interactive.

Colors: Pretty

Rather than traditional pirate colors, I chose a beautiful palette of:
Ocean blues

Aqua tones, Soft turquoise. Sandy neutrals. Bright coral and red accents

These colors create a cheerful, pretty coastal vibe while still maintaining the adventurous pirate theme.

Random: Geometric

Several geometric elements were incorporated throughout the design:

  • Square openings in the film strip frame
  • Repeating geometric scale pattern from the Treasure Voyage Paper Pack
  • Layered rectangular card base Curved wave borders created with the Stitched Scallop Borders Repetitive wave motifs throughout the background

Creating Dimension and Movement

One of my favorite aspects of this card is the amount of texture and visual interest packed into the design.

Ocean Waves with Stitched Scallop Borders

The Stitched Scallop Borders were layered across the bottom portion of the card to create rolling ocean waves. Using Pebbled Beach Cardstock for the waves adds a soft sandy shoreline effect while creating contrast against the vibrant ocean-themed background.

White Highlights for Realistic Water

After coloring the images with Copic Markers, I added strategic white highlights throughout the water and splashes. These highlights help create the illusion of movement and bring the ocean scenes to life.

Glossy Accents for Extra Shine

To add special finishing touches, I applied Glossy Accents to:\

  • Pirate swords
  • Skull embellishments
  • Small accent details

Copic Coloring Details

All of the stamped images were colored using Copic Markers, allowing for rich shading, vibrant color transitions, and detailed highlights.

The pirate krakens feature bright coral, orange, and pink tones that pop against the cool ocean background, while the pirate boy’s clothing incorporates classic nautical reds, browns, and blues.

The combination of warm character colors against the cool ocean palette creates strong contrast and keeps the focal images front and center.

Why This Design Works

This card successfully combines storytelling, dimension, and color into one cohesive design. The film strip frames naturally guide the viewer’s eye from scene to scene, while the layered wave borders create depth and movement. The ocean-inspired colors provide a fresh take on a pirate theme, making the finished card feel playful, bright, and inviting.

Whether you’re creating cards for pirate lovers, nautical enthusiasts, or simply looking for a fun way to use your favorite stamp sets, this design offers plenty of inspiration for incorporating scene building, layered dies, and detailed coloring into your projects.
