Mixed Media Birthday Card Magic

Today I dove back into one of my absolute favorite creative rabbit holes—mixed media! I pulled out my beloved Art Anthology sprays and got messy in all the best ways to create a vibrant, dreamy background perfect for a birthday celebration.

Building the Background

To kick things off, I grabbed a piece of sturdy watercolor paper and misted it with teal, pink, and purple sprays. These colors blend like butter and create such gorgeous movement when they meet water. Once dry, the panel had this ethereal, artsy vibe that just made my heart happy.

Adding the Butterfly Detail

Next, I inked up the Butterfly Background stamp from Technique Junkies with Versafine Clair Nocturne—a rich, crisp black ink that’s perfect for detailed images. After stamping, I heat-embossed the panel with clear powder to lock in that contrast and give the butterflies just a touch of shine.

Finishing Touches for a Birthday Celebration

To add texture, I wrapped a bit of silver thread behind the focal area, giving the whole panel a soft shimmer. Then I die-cut a circle from Disco Tech cardstock, popped it up with foam for dimension, and added a simple Happy Birthday sentiment right on top.

And of course—because I can’t resist sparkle—I finished the card with a sprinkle of Opulence Confetti embellishments. They catch the light beautifully and bring the whole design to life.
