Sympathy Cards, If You Have to… Why Not Learn a New Technique?

I know.. who wants to make sympathy cards? I think it is better to have one on hand instead of trying to make them in between tears. Am I right? But, if you have to make a sympathy card why not learn a new technique at the same time? Multi layer stamping is made very simple with the Maker Forte Hello Spring stamp set and it creates a beautiful tulip. If you haven’t tried this yet, I highly recommend it and encourage you to do so.

The Hello Spring set has both the multi-layer stamps and an accompanying stencil, but for today, I am focusing on the stamping. I always start out by stamping the outline image, and then follow with each individual layer because it is easier to line them up that way. In this case I chose Eclipse Black ink for the outline. Also I stamp from lightest to darkest, starting with the most solid of layers and progress to the most intricate image when using multi layer stamps. To create the yellow petals I used Color Hive Inks in the colors, Lemon and English Mustard. The foliage part of the image was stamped in Cotswold Green and Palm Tree. I wanted the stamen to be darker therefore they were stamped with Red Leicester.

Once the stamping was complete I added copper glitter to the stamen using the Maker’s Magic Glue which was applied using the tip of a paint brush. I also used colored pencils for additional shading, but this is an unnecessary step. You will also notice the Hexagon Burst stencil in the background which was blended with Blue Moon Color Hive Ink. Finally I added the sentiment from Floating Gingko to finish off the card. If you want more detailed instructions, please checkout the video below.
