Hello friends! I was in the mood to get inky and make a few cards! Imagine that? Right? Today I am sharing a few cards for Maker Forte using the Shower of Gifts Background stamp and played around with color combinations and different techniques I hope you will stick around for it. Plus I have the whole thing documented in a video if that helps!
For each of the cards, I used the Shower Of Gifts Background stamp, but wanted to explore how color and application would change the overall effect of the cards. I’m pointing out the obvious here, but I stuck to primary colors for half of the cards, and pastels for the others.
For the primary colors I used the Color Hive Inks in the colors, Telephone Box, California Love, and Acid Wash. I used two different ways to blend my primary colored cards. The first was applying the inks with a foam applicator onto Bristol Smooth Cardstock and watering it down creating a beautiful rainbow background. Once it was thoroughly dried and then stamped the background with Color Hive Eclipse Black ink to get the crisp image. For the other two primary cards, I smooshed each of the three colors onto the Shower of Gifts Background stamp and applied a light mist of water before stamping the images, obtaining an organic water color effect. Because I had so much ink left over I did a second panel and got an even different look
The second set of cards were created using Color Hive Inks in the colors, Bubble Tea, Icy Mist, and Grape. I used the exact same methods as before for two of the cards, but for the third an embossed resist technique. For that card I applied Embossing Glue Ink to a Bristol Smooth panel treated with an anti-static powder tool and embossed it with clear powder. By embossing it in clear, the white of the paper is trapped under it when you apply the inks on top
My last card, I colored with Copics which are alcohol ink based markers. My favorite color combination for cards are red, black, white, and gray, and so I just felt the need to include one in the mix. I also wanted to show that background stamps can be colored in case that is something you enjoy. I personally love to color, but I also like all things inky. For this last card, I stamped the Shower of Gifts with the Eclipse Black Ink and colored them with my favorite red combination. (R 32, 35, 37, 39). But as you can see in all of the example I have kept things pretty quick and easy.
To finish of my cards I matted them, added Birthday Sentiments from an ephemera pack and a few sequins and gems. Below you can find my process video if you want more details. I hope you like these cards and will give them a try!
