Calling all chocolate lovers, this Valentine is for you! For me personally, Love is spelled c-h-o-c-o-l-a-t-e! Luckily for my husband he learned that early on. Did you know he stops and gets me a Hershey bar every other evening on his way home from work? I wouldn’t be surprised if he has a secret stash, just in case, but I know he loves me none the less. When Scrappy Tails Crafts came out with Chocolate Heart Gift Box I knew this would be his Valentine. It’s killing me not to show him my project, but I will try to hold in my excitement until the big day.
Aren’t these chocolates fabulous, and the bonus is they are calorie free! I made these by using the Truffle add on dies for the Chocolate Heart Gift Box. Sabrina did a fabulous video on how to construct this box (here), if you are interested in the full details. I like a very sturdy card, so I not only die cut the top and bottom heart layers with patterned scrapbook paper, but cut them two more times with 80# card stock and glued them together. For the top box I butted up the long bar that forms the lid as close to the heart edge as possible. I found it was easier to start each side at the bottom instead of starting at the top of the heart. I did the same process for the bottom layer of box but glued the bars approximately 1/8th inch in from the edge so that the lid would slide over easily,. I also opted to line the top and bottom insides of the box with the smaller heart in the Chocolate Heart Gift Box to hide the hinges. Next, I folded the cross bars and constructed them like a puzzle.
Once the box was constructed, I decorated the outside of the box using the Scalloped Heart Add on die set. I die cut 3 of the layers with varying patterned papers and solid cardstock to create this beautiful design. In addition I used the word Love and the bow from the Chocolate Heart Gift Box to add even more fun elements. I also used part of a sentiment from the Sweet Treats stamp set, using only the “You” to finish off my tag.
Now I think this was the fun part of the project, creating the Truffles! To make these delicious chocolates, I die cut all of the top layers with Kraft card stock, and the bottoms with dark brown, I wanted a little bit more variation, so I colored some of them with different brown Copic markers, but made sure to pop out the icing to keep them lighter. I glued each of the coordinating layers together, and added either white enamel accents, Cranberry or Diamond stickles to add the decorative pieces. I just couldn’t stop there, and die cut the wrapper layer and popped each of the candies up with foam tape to give them dimension. I am in love with this Valentine and had a blast creating it. I sincerely hope you will give this a try!
