Christmas in July with Making Memories

Hi crafty friends! I’m up with a beachy Christmas in July card for Joy Clair Designs. I decided to feature the cute little bears from the Making Memories digital stamp set. This stamp set comes with 3 images and five sentiments, and is geared toward Christmas, but I think you could make all occasion cards with them too. Let’s take a look…

For this card I chose to do a Copic marker scene, so I printed the Making Memories bears on to smooth card stock to make blending easier. I colored the bears clothing in non traditional Christmas colors so that they would feel more beachy, using aqua and persimmon colors.

From there I drew in the horizon line and started working on my ocean an beach. My intention was to add a die cut palm tree once the scene was colored in to accent the cute bears from Making Memories, but I couldn’t find it in my stash. That was very scary for me because my only alternative was to draw one in over existing colors. I sketched it with a very light color in case I messed it up and then went in with the darker browns and greens. I was very lucky that the existing colors blended well and it looks like the tree was always meant to be there. My final step was adding the Christmas themed banner sentiment to the card. I just love how this turned out, and know someone will love getting a beachy Christmas card this winter.
