All About Layering with Majestic Bloom

Hi crafters! I’m so excited you’ve stopped by today because I just started the Altenew Educator Certification Program and am thrilled to be learning from such talented folks. My first course is called All About Layering 1, where you learn how to add layers using multi layer stamps to create beautiful florals. Let’s take a quick look and then I’ll get into the details.

Layering can mean many things to people. When I first started card making I thought of the simplest layer, by adding a mat, and then I learned that popping up items with foam adhesive would also add dimension. The next technique learned and is my favorite, is heat embossing. Not only does heat embossing add dimension or layers, it’s mesmerizing to watch. Multi layering stamping is so much fun and adds stunning detail to your projects. Here I used Altenew’s Majestic Bloom stamp set.

When using multi layer stamps, I recommend starting with the outline stamp first. In this example I used the Pocketful of Sunshine ink cube set because it has 4 colors in the combination which I stamped the outline with the darkest yellow. Altenew is very good at providing an instruction guide with their stamp sets, but I have found it useful to draw arrows to specific areas so that lining up the stamps is easier. I learned this helpful tip from Nicole Picadura who teaches the All About Layering course. The next layer to choose, is the solid most stamp and use the lightest of the yellows (Citrus Burst), and then proceed with the next most solid stamp using Fresh Lemon. For the fine detail layer, I stamped it in Maple Yellow. I followed the same procedure with the leaves using two layers in the colors Forest Glades, and Frayed Leaf which can be found in the Floral ink cube set.

Once finished stamping, I added splatter with an olive shaded shimmer pen. I heat embossed the focal sentiment from the the Majestic Bloom set and then used a smaller one from the Sentiment Strips stamp set. I mentioned that embossing, and popping up images help add layers and dimension, but I had to take it one step further by adding a fun ribbon to accent my sentiment.

Okay that wraps it up for me today, but you can find more Altenew inspiration in the following places:
