Hello my friends! I am sharing a card celebrating Independence Day and thought we would go back to basics with our card design and techniques. The Military Heroes stamp set from Whimsy, in my opinion is perfect for this holiday. You’ll have to let me know.
I started off by making the background first by spraying dye inks onto Canson XL watercolor paper and dripping the colors down along each side. Later, I switched up my technique and sprayed them directly onto the paper. Once the panel was completely dried, I embossed the American Flag images from Military Heroes in white. The soldier was actually stamped using Versafine Clair Nocturne Ink and embossed in clear. I think the biggest take away from this project is to make sure your layers are completely dry, and to treat with an anti static powder tool between each embossed image. Check out the video for more.
If you are wondering why I chose a soldier themed card for Independence Day instead of fireworks, bbq, beach, etc is because I come from a very patriotic, history buff kind of family. When Frances Scott Key wrote our national anthem, and denoted that “our flag was still there” What most people don’t know is that a soldier was stationed in front of our flag at Fort McHenry while it was being bombed. As one soldier died, another ran out to keep it standing. My “dawn’s early light” the flag was only standing because a mound of dead soldiers kept the flag propped up. If that’s not a good enough reason to honor a veteran and say thank you, I don’t know what it. I am forever grateful for those who died and will die for our independence. Happy Independence Day everyone!
