Faux Water Coloring with Copics

Hello friends! As much as I love coloring with Copics, I love “water coloring” with them too. Did you know you could do that? I’ve got a fun card featuring this technique using the You Are Loved digital stamp from Joy Clair Designs! I think you’re going to love this one! Let’s get into it… and if you prefer you can watch the process video below.

I started by printing the You Are Loved feather images and sentiment onto smooth cardstock using a Laser printer. You will have to check to see if your printer ink is compatible with alcohol markers before starting, but laser printers are compatible with all mediums (fyi). I chose several copic markers to create the background on this panel by scribbling them down on my glass mat and picking up the color with an aqua brush filled with 91% rubbing alcohol. I laid down the colors haphazardly over the panel and once the paper became saturated, I dried it with my heat gun. Be sure to do this in a well ventilated area as the fumes can become strong. Or wait for it to dry naturally. In addition to adding the color with a brush, I also used an ink smooshing technique to clean up my mat. Once the panel was completely dry, I added some color strategically with my copics to add boldness to the feathers. Finally I matted the panel onto brushed silver cardstock and wrapped it with black twine for interest and texture before adhering to a mini slimline card base.

Tip: Have one brush dedicated to rubbing alcohol because if previously filled with water it will not work.

Copics Used: RV 93, 95, 99 BV 23, 25, 29 V 04, 05
