Stretching Your Supplies To The Next Season

Hello friends! Boy, do I have a project to share with you today, But, first do you ever buy craft products and find that after the season you bought it for, that you don’t do anything else with it? I have that problem too, but today I am stretching my Valentine’s Day stash into the next season… St Patrick’s Day that is! You probably don’t know this about me, but this is my very favorite holiday of the year. I mean do we need any other reason except you get to have a beer and pinch those not wearing green? That’s my kinda day! Anyhow I am featuring Scrappy Tails Crafts products with a few Dollar Tree hacks mixed in. Let’s get into it…

Do you remember the Chocolate Heart Gift Box that I made for my husband (HERE) a few weeks, ago, yep it’s one in the same but you would never know it. I transformed it into 3D wall decor for St. Patrick’s Day! To create the base of the shamrock, I die cut the largest heart three times and the brackets 6 times from the Chocolate Heart Gift Box set. I also cut the smaller heart three times for one of the layers, but while you have the set out, you may as well do it all at one time. I didn’t create the bottom of the box because this was going to be hanging on the wall, and not used as a box in case you were wondering. After adhering the brackets to all three hearts with liquid glue I then used hot glue to adhere all three heart shapes together creating the clover. In additiion I cut two 1inch x 11 inch strips to form the stem. I just scored one end and glued the second strip to the tab. I wanted the stem to be curved so I used hot glue and adhered part of the stem down one side of the clover creating the curve and a short side. The other side was only glued at the very top.

I created the matting layers with different sized hearts from the Scalloped Heart Addon die set. I just love all of the detail in these nesting dies. Once I had the Shamrock finished, I used some Dollar Tree finds to decorate it with. You will notice the wood rainbow, that was a faux votive candle holder that I tore apart carefully and inked up with white pigment ink and Distress Oxides in the colors Candied Apple, Carved Pumpkin, Squeezed Lemonade, and Tumbled Glass. I also found an unfinished wood sign which I took the rope off of and painted with chalk paint, as well as some wooden number cut outs. Once dry I added the word die cut from my stash to the sign. The scariest part was cutting the rainbow in half, but I think it would have been too big otherwise. After gluing those two things down I fiddled with some white flowers and a gold coin to finish off the project.

I cannot tell you how much fun this was to create. My husband has already asked if I will make one for his office. Apparently the guys at work ask him frequently for my makes. I think he should start charging them. Just kidding.
