Dragonfly Dreams Mixed Media Birthday Card

Hello and welcome back! I’m bringing you an inky mixed media card featuring some fun products from Sweet ‘n Sassy Stamps. I fell in love with the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set and knew I wanted to pair it with the Botanical Branches and Going Postal sets. I think this made for an unique project. Please join me…

Even though the Dragon Fly is the star of the show, the background required the most detail. I started by blending Distress Oxide inks in the colors, Villainous Potion, Seedless Preserves and Victorian Velvet in a smooth gradient. After heat setting it I repetitively stamped the script from Going Postal with Distress Ink Villainous Potion for a tone on tone appearance. Next I stamped one of the Botanical Branches several times with Versafine Clair Nocturne ink and heat set the entire background before splattering it with a champaign colored acrylic paint.

While that dried I stamped the body of the Dragon Fly with the Versafine ink. I used the Distress Ink Villainous Potion to stamp the solid layer of the wings and then the outline version with Versamark ink and embossed it with Blue Quartz embossing powder. I wasn’t exactly happy with the contrast of the white outline from fussy cutting the image so I blended the Victorian Velvet over the entire image. I still wasn’t sold, but then I rubbed Pluto Kaliedoscope powder over the wings and got that fabulous blue and was pleased. My final step before assembling the card was stamping and embossing the Script Sentiment in white.
