Hello crafty friends, I don’t know if you have noticed but lately I have been going back to the basics for my holiday card making? Doing easy ink blended skies make for fun and easy to reproduce Christmas cards. I love that each one looks custom, but really the same technique is used each time. My card today features the Nativity Ornament die set from Scrappy Tails Crafts.
If you are new to card making this card will be a great place to start, but if you’ve been around for awhile, I am sure you will love getting inky. If you decide to make this one or something similar tag me on social media because I love seeing what you come up with! To start this card, I die cut the Nativity Ornament with heavy black cardstock and weeded it out to start my scene. This set comes with a beautiful “O Holy Night” sentiment but I chose to do something different and added the “Merry Christmas” sentiment from the Christmas Icons stamp set.
Back to the scene. I started by trimming a water color panel to 4×5.25 inches and centered the ornament so that I would know where I wanted the yellow highlight and then removed the die cut. I started by adding Squeezed Lemonade Distress Ink where the star would be and then added Picked Raspberry, and Seedless Preserves to create a Northern Lights effect. I then blended Prize Ribbon and Chipped Sapphire to create the dark sky, which really creates a wonderful glow for the Nativity Ornament. To get that fun water colored appearance, I spritzed the panel and let the colors meld together before drying it. Next I adhered the ornament die cut and splattered the sky. My final step before trimming the panel and adhering it to the card base was embossing the sentiment from Christmas Icons with silver embossing powder.
