Hi crafty friends! I’m glad you stopped by as I have a beautiful birthday card to share with you featuring Joy Clair Designs, Floral Friendship. Floral Friendship is a digital stamp set that features four images and four sentiments that are perfect for all occasions. Let’s take a look…
Recently I asked my friends on Facebook if they preferred physical stamps or digital stamps more. I got a a mix of answers, but one theme I heard was that people weren’t sure how to use different mediums with digital stamps, so I hope over the next few weeks I can talk more about that with you. Today I chose to watercolor my image. I heard quite a bit of questions whether this could be done with digital stamps. The answer is yes, actually you can do almost everything you do with physical stamps with the digital. In order to print on to thicker card stock or watercolor paper, most printers have a manual feed option which allows for this. I have a Brother laser printer and I have been able to use 110 lb card stock on auto feed, but I do manually feed the water color paper.
The next thing I heard is that some printer inks aren’t compatible with digis, depending on what medium you use. I have both a laser and inkjet printer which allows for all kinds of options. With a laser printer, you can color with alcohol markers, dye based inks, pigment inks and foil, so I find the laser printer to be the best option. Some inkjet printers have permanent ink that won’t bleed with watercolors, but most will. However, I have found that if you print your images with an inkjet the day before, most of the time you can use alcohol markers. I hope this helps a little.
Now back to my card… I printed the Floral Friendship image onto Canson Xl Bristol Smooth card stock using my laser printer. What is nice about the laser printer is that basically toner is made up of small plastic particles that melt on to the paper, so it sort creates a well like when you heat emboss. I actually didn’t take advantage of the wells because I wanted a loose water color look. I used Karin Brushmarker Pro markers as my watercolor medium. In order to get the messy look, I lightly spritzed the paper with water before applying my colors. I heat set my colors in between each application so that the paper didn’t warp too bad. In case you do experience warping, you can run your card stock through your die cutting machine to flatten it. To finish my card, I added a black mat and and iridescent sequins to it.
Okay I think that pretty much sums up this beautiful, but easy to create card. I hope this inspires you to take a look at the Joy Clair Designs Shop today!

Absolutely beautiful card Joy.I prefer actual stamps as my printer throws a right teenage tantrum and won’t print on anything thicker than 160gsm so no good for watercolouring or distress/oxide inks-but I have quite a collection of digi images too

Thanks Carol! It seems printers are the culprit of all things! Have a great week!
