Morgan’s Artworld Challenge 4

Hello, my crafty friends! Today starts another fun challenge at Morgan’s Artworld where the theme is anything goes. i do hope you will join us over there this month! My card today was a little challenging to color, which is why I love Morgan’s image so much. This image comes in grey scale, which helps determine your shading, but can also determine your colors too. I tried a new coloring technique for skin tones and I think it worked very nicely here. Let’s take a look….

I decided to go with an A7 format or 5×7 inch card so that I would have more real estate to show off this beauty! I printed the 1920s Lady 3 stamp set on to smooth card stock so that I could color it with copics. As I mentioned this stamp comes in grey scale, and sometimes I struggle with skin tones in the format, so I tried something different. I first colored the skin with E000 copic to prime the area and then went over the gray shadowed areas with an E11, followed by an R20. I know you’re gasping… R20 typically is added to add a blushed effect, but by adding this to the shadow area it balanced the gray. Once I had the the shadows completed I added a light shade of E00 over the entire area. I think it turned out great, and I’m not afraid any more!!!

For the rest of the image I chose gray, red, black color palette because it is one my favorites and so indicative of the 1920s flapper era. I chose a fun (retired) cover plate die from Spellbinders called French Harmony for the background and then added silver glitter stock to add glitz! I also add flourishes from the March 2017 Die Kit of the month which is no longer available. And finally the fun sentiment I think is perfect for this 1920s Lady which was die cut with circle dies and then halved. So much fun right?

hope that you will join us in the challenge! Be sure to check out the blog and Facebook for more inspiration from the creative team!
