Second Day of TRHD April New Release Hop

Hello crafty friends! I am so glad you joined me for Second Day of the April new release hop with The Rabbit Hole Designs. If you haven’t seen the amazing projects from the design, I just wanted to tell you we have beachy stamps and I think you’re going to love them. I am the sharing the Tropical State of Mind stamp which is a 4 x6 inch set featuring two fun images and four sentiments. Let’s take a look…

I wanted to do something a little different this time, so I chose to watercolor the Tropical State of Mind stamp, which I used Verafine Claire Nocturne ink to stamp it and heat embossed it with clear powder. I stamped this using my Misti because I am using Canson XL water color paper and due to the texture expected to have lay down the ink a few times.

A little trick I learned a long time ago was to tape my paper down onto a cutting board using painters tape to prevent warping with all the water being used. This worked like a charm for me this go around. I used my Karin Brushmarker Pros after wetting the surface area down that I’d be working with and then dropped the colors in. I heat set my colors between layers to get the best blend. Once I was happy with the stamped focal image, I then painted in the sky and the sand leaving shadows and layers strategically. I have learned when makin a sky to add water sort of in blotches and drop the color in to form the clouds in the sky.

Once the panel was completely dry I stamped and embossed the main sentiment, and then trimmed the panel to 5 inches square.

I blended Kitsch Flamingo Distress Ink and Simon Hurley Clear skies in through the Tastes Like Honey stencil, which is also newly released, directly onto my card base.

Tip: to make a 6×6 square base from an 8.5 x11 inch paper, cut two sheets 6×6, and one side of the back panel score at 1/2 inch and burnish the fold. Straighten it and add glue to the 1/2 inch strip only and adhere it to the inside top panel. I do this when I don’t have 12 x 12 inch paper available.
