Better Together

Hi and welcome back to my crafty place! I’m so glad you have joined me for this collaboration between Joy Clair Designs and Imagine Crafts for a Better Together Blog Hop! For this collaboration I made two cards featuring a faux watercolor technique using Stazon ink and Versacolor Inks provided by Imagine Crafts.

Let’s take a look at the first card featuring Joy Clair Designs Snowy Greetings which is now available in digital format. In my example I used the sold out photopolymer version. What’s awesome is the same techniques I used for this card can be used with a digital stamp.

I used a previously made background using Distress oxides and added Plum Stazon ink to shadow around the snowmen. I then stamped the snow flakes with versamark ink and heat embossed with white fine detail powder. Now if you are using the digital version, you would print the snowflake background and blend your inks. When finished blending you would trace the snowflakes with a Versa Marker and heat emboss as usual.

The snowmen trio from the Snowy Greeting stamp set were stamped using a Misti platform and Plum Stazon ink. This is where the faux watercolor technique comes in. I used an aqua brush filled with 91% rubbing alcohol and dragged the plum color out to add shadow. I found that I needed a little more color so I laid down some of the ink on a craft mat and picked it up with my brush. In addition to the plum, I used Bordeaux Stazon to add color to the hats and add more dimension. For the final touches I added Copics to add the rosy cheeks and a blue tint. Copics and Stazon inks work well together because both are alcohol ink based.

The inside of the card needed a little something special in my opinion so I added a single snow man from the Snowy Greetings stamp set and sentiment. Both were stamped in Black Versacolor ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder. If using the digital version of the stamp, to add that shine, you could simply foil the laser printed image with black foil.

Let’s take a look at my second card featuring the Driving By stamp set from Joy Clair Designs

This fun Driving By Christmas Card was stamped using Black Versacolor Ink and heat set thoroughly. It was fun coloring the car with Versacolor Cardinal Ink and Evergreen ink using aqua pen, this time filled with water. I don’t consider this true water coloring, but it did allow me to smooth this creamy pigment ink and get flawless coverage. The sentiments stamped on the upper corner tag are from the Give Thanks stamp set and inked up with the black Verasacolor. Don’t you love the patterned paper and tag from Carta Bella’s Hello Christmas 6×6 paper pad? This can also be found in the Joy Clair shop!

If you love the stamps that I have shown you today, I have a coupon code to the Joy Clair shop for an additional 5% off using code JOYWILSON.
