Adding Strategic Interest

Hi and welcome back to my crafty place. Today I am sharing a slimline card featuring Joy Clair’s Hope stamp set. Despite this being a clean and simple design it pulls a big punch (no pun intended). When designing a card or any layout it is very important to pull elements in that will catch the eye. For this card I strategically placed the boxing glove from the Hope stamp set at the top, but had them dangling from the right corner, because if you take a close look the right glove it is bigger and in front which means it the focus point for that image. Next I placed the sentiment in the center drawing the eye further down the card. The final image, the ribbon of Hope, was then placed so the biggest part would be on the right so that eye keeps moving.

Now that we have talked about the image placement, lets talk color and embellishments. I chose 4 complimentary Copic markers to add contrast and highlight because when you see a ribbon in real life the layers in the back are typically darker in appearance due to lighting. I always try the scary dark color for my shadows and then then work to my lightest colors, and repeat the scary dark color where needed. I don’t know about you, but when I first started card making I had no idea where to place my sequins, gems, etc. I used to drop them and glued them where they fell because I wanted an organic feel. But in reality, you need to be deliberate in placement. My new strategy is to use odd numbers and have them tied to my images. If you look at my placement here, my gems take your eye down a path to each and every image. You can’t help but, to look at and pause at each image and know exactly what the card conveys. I hope this helps.
